The Almanor is a writer-first publication. We're founded by creatives, and we want to be the magazine that the most interesting people in the world come to to tell their stories. Everything we publish starts with something in culture and asks what it says for the world around us.

Some of our writers are very accomplished and published around the world. Some are digital creators looking to tell stories in new ways. And some are just really interesting people we meet along the way.
Almanor editors are cultural omnivores. We want to hear about everything, and tell us why it's important. Take big swings. Show us why you're the only person in the world who can tell this story.
Ideas to work with
Here are some examples of stories we're interested in. Feel free to take one of these and pitch us on how you'd do it. Or take it as a guide for the kind of thing we're interested in, and tell us something we've never seen before.
Money
We pay all of our writers. Our fees right now are $100 USD for a short piece (200-1000 words), and $150 USD for a long piece (1,000 - 3,000 words). We will commission a specific length.
We are currently operating on seed funding. As we grow our subscriber base and attract investment, we will increase these rates. We will back-pay all writers from the three months prior to any increase to the new rate.
